Teacher Assistant at Hand in Hand (2009 - present)
At Hand in Hand I work one-on-one with 2 and 3 year-olds diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders. I use ABA teaching techniques such as Discrete Trial Teaching and Natural Environment Teaching to implement programs designed to improve development in the areas of receptive and expressive communication, imitation, visual performance, and adaptive daily living skills. I enjoy the way that teaching students one-on-one allows me to provide a level of intimacy and attention in which I can more effectively make every moment a teachable moment and create more opportunities to incorporate learning goals into every activity.
Student Teacher at Hand in Hand (2014)
In the fall of 2014 I was lucky enough to work with the students I already know and love in an entirely new capacity as a lead teacher. I led the class in the daily morning meeting, music and movement, story time, and art activities. I was able to create lessons that addressed student goals across a variety of developmental levels and individualize learning tasks to each student's abilities in order to promote progress and success. The lesson plans below are based on the most beloved books in our class - Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes by James Dean and Eric Litwin, and Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley.
